Barmer, April 15 -- Police detained two people on Tuesday who were part of a mob that had forced a 24-year-old man to drink urine and eat human excreta, allegedly for storing girls' photos on his mobile phone in Barmer district, officers said. The incident occurred on March 26, around 1pm in the jurisdiction of Sheo police station but surfaced on Tuesday after a 43-second video went viral on social media. In the video, the man sits on the ground with his face blackened as several people record him being forced to consume human waste. He resists and appears to vomit. HT could not independently verify the video. Police said a group confronted the man over the allegations that he had stored pictures of girl on his mobile phone, leading to a violent attack in which his face was blackened and he was subjected to inhuman degradation. Additional superintendent of police Nitesh Arya confirmed the assault. "The victim was brutally assaulted, his face was blackened, and he was subjected to inhuman humiliation. The accused forced him to drink urine and consume human waste. Two accused have been arrested so far, and further investigation is underway to identify and take action against others involved," he said. Station house officer Satyaprakash Vishnoi said, "A case of defamation and assault has been registered based on the complaint filed by the victim's family. Prima facie, the dispute appears to have arisen from a WhatsApp chat involving a girl. Two accused have been detained, and efforts are underway to identify and arrest others seen in the video."
