Fresh survey revives rail link project in state
Barmer, June 16 -- A long-pending railway project aimed at strengthening connectivity along India's western border has returned to the spotlight after a fresh survey revived plans for the Jaisalmer-Barmer rail corridor.
First surveyed in 2001, the project has undergone three surveys over 26 years, while its estimated cost has risen more than fourfold-from Rs.616 crore to about Rs.2,556 crore. Once completed, the rail link is expected to connect nearly 150 villages across four border districts of western Rajasthan and improve connectivity in remote areas along the Indo-Pak border.
