Barmer/Jaisalmer, Feb. 9 -- Doctors at Jaisalmer's largest government hospital, the Government Jawahir Hospital, have been assigned the additional responsibility of keeping stray dogs out of the hospital campus. Following instructions from the Health Department in Jaipur, the hospital administration has decided to declare the entire Jawahir Hospital campus a "dog-free zone." As part of stray dog-control initiative, senior dentist Dr Sardara Ram has been appointed as the nodal officer. Along with ensuring a safe treatment environment for patients, he will now oversee monitoring and coordination to prevent the movement of stray dogs within the hospital premises. While confirming the development, Principal Medical Officer (PMO) of Jawahir Hospital Dr Ravindra Sankhla said that the safety of patients and their attendants remains the hospital's top priority. "Stray dogs are frequently seen in hospital wards, OPDs, and around garbage disposal areas. This not only creates fear among patients but also increases the risk of infection and accidents," he said. Officials informed that under the initiative, low boundary walls will be raised, gate management will be tightened, and coordination with the Municipal Council will be strengthened. Besides this, stray dogs found inside the hospital campus will be safely removed and relocated, ensuring humane handling while maintaining public safety. Reacting to the development, Dr Murlidhar Soni, President of All Rajasthan In-Service Doctors Association (ARISDA) Jaisalmer, clarified that the decision follows state government guidelines and is not intended to undermine the dignity of any medical professional. "The nodal officer's role is only to monitor and coordinate. Doctors will not physically handle dogs. Municipal staff and other personnel will carry out the operational work," he said. Nodal Officer Dr. Sardara Ram Pawar said, "The financial and administrative authority rests with the PMO. I will faithfully discharge the responsibility assigned to me."...
