Barmer/Jaisalmer, June 16 -- In a significant move to strengthen security along the Indo-Pak international border, authorities have expanded the scope of an ongoing border survey in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer district from 15 km to 50 km from the frontier. The expanded exercise will cover 102 villages and hamlets located in the border belt. The exercise follows directions issued by Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his recent visit to Rajasthan. The survey is being conducted jointly by the Border Security Force , Intelligence Bureau, Military Intelligence and the district administration. Earlier, the survey was limited to villages within 15 km of the international border. Following directions from the Home Department, the monitoring radius has now been extended to 50 km, significantly widening the security net and bringing 102 villages and hamlets under review. "We have expanded the survey area in accordance with government directives. The exercise is being carried out systematically, and a detailed report will be submitted to the Home Ministry upon completion," Jaisalmer Collector Anupama Jorwal said on Monday. Officials said the campaign aims to identify illegal constructions, verify ownership records, detect fake documentation and investigate the source of funding for high-value structures situated close to the international border. Authorities are also monitoring suspicious financial transactions and possible links to smuggling and infiltration networks. Officials said the expanded survey is part of a broader strategy to strengthen border security, improve intelligence gathering and disrupt networks involved in illegal activities in sensitive frontier regions. A key focus of the operation is the scrutiny of large-scale investments made in border-area constructions.
