App seeks to tackle Barmer water woes
Barmer, Sept. 30 -- Barmer has taken a step towards digital water governance with the launch of the 'Jal Setu App', a smart water management solution that will allow residents to track their daily supply, raise complaints, and access real-time updates directly on their phones.
Developed by the district administration, the app provides users information on the nearest water source within a 5 km radius, the quantity and quality of water available, and alerts on supply disruptions or contamination. It also enables citizens to upload photos of leakages, theft, or illegal connections, tagging the concerned official for quick action.
District collector Tina Dabi said the initiative stemmed from recurring complaints during public hearings and village chaupals. "People repeatedly raised the same concerns-irregular supply, leakage, and illegal connections. We wanted a single platform to resolve these issues and provide transparency".
She further explained that often, water supply is disrupted due to maintenance work on the PHED pipelines, leaving people troubled. In such cases, an alert will be sent via the app informing users about ongoing maintenance, water supply disruptions, contaminated supply, or alternative arrangements....
