ACB action in fake seeds case sparks political slugfest in state
Jaipur, June 11 -- Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) chief Hanuman Beniwal on Wednesday targeted the BJP-led state government over the Anti-Corruption Bureau's (ACB) action against the agriculture department director and other officials in a case involving fake seeds.
Addressing a press conference in Jaipur, Beniwal linked the ACB's action in the fake seed case to chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma's strained relations with state agriculture minister Kirodi Lal Meena than to a genuine crackdown on corruption.
"More than half the ministers in this government are corrupt, but action has been taken only in this case. The phones of Kirodi Lal Meena's close associates were put under surveillance. The differences between chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and Kirodi Lal Meena are well known," Beniwal alleged.
The RLP chief further alleged widespread corruption in several departments of the state government. "There is rampant corruption in departments such as UDH, Health, and Transport. If CM Bhajan Lal truly wants to curb corruption, he should also place the phones of the concerned ministers and their close associates under surveillance. Only then will the truth come out. But they will not do that," he alleged.
Referring to the alleged land-for-land graft case, Beniwal also launched a personal attack on the chief minister. He claimed that the CM's alleged brother-in-law had been linked to the land case allegations. "To date, the chief minister has not publicly clarified that Pramod Sharma is not his brother-in-law. The chief minister should hand over the matter to CBI," Beniwal said.
The Congress has also stepped up its attack on Meena over the alleged fake seeds case and bribery allegations. The party said that raids, extortion allegations, arrests, FIRs, and call recordings had now "exposed the entire matter," adding that Meena had lost the moral right to continue as Agriculture Minister.
However, the BJP strongly rejected the allegations. Speaking to HT, state BJP chief spokesperson Ramlal Sharma said, "The Bhajan Lal government is following a zero-tolerance policy against corruption in Rajasthan. Strict action will be taken against any employee or individual found involved in corruption at any level. Allegations of any kind of bias are completely baseless."...
