Barmer/Balotra, Aug. 13 -- The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), with the help of Rajasthan Police, has busted an interstate gang allegedly involved in stealing crude oil from the HPCL Rajasthan Refinery pipeline passing through Pachpadra tehsil of Balotra district, officials said, adding that eight people have been arrested. Investigation revealed that the gang had been conducting reconnaissance of the pipeline for nearly six months, they said. The case came to light after the Gujarat ATS received information that people from Gujarat and Rajasthan were conspiring to steal crude oil from the pipeline, the ATS detained Jairaj Singh Chudasama (34), a resident of Rajkot district on August 10. In a statement Gujarat ATS said the accused allegedly dug a 3-4 feet deep pit, punctured the pipeline and installed a valve to siphon off crude oil. ATS officers said the accused stole around 20 tonnes of crude oil and sold the oil in Beawar. Following the information provided by him, the ATS, with assistance from Rajasthan Police, detained and later arrested seven more members of the gang in Balotra on August 10.
