Udaipur, July 20 -- A suspected interstate child trafficking case involving tribal children from Rajasthan has surfaced after seven children from Udaipur district were rescued by the Goa railway police while allegedly being transported to southern India on the pretext of providing free education, police said on Sunday. The children, aged between seven and 12 years, were brought back to Rajasthan as authorities began investigating whether a larger network was operating in the state. The rescued children, comprising two girls and five boys, belong to different villages in Jhadol tehsil of Udaipur district. According to officials, they were allegedly taken from their villages on July 15, transported by bus to Ahmedabad and then by train to Goa. Investigators suspect they were being taken onward to Tamil Nadu when the Goa railway police intercepted the group after receiving information about a large number of children travelling together. During preliminary questioning, the children reportedly told officials that they belonged to different villages in Jhadol and had earlier been taken to a church in the area. Investigators are also examining information suggesting that more than 15 children from the Udaipur division may have previously been sent to Tamil Nadu . Yashoda Paniya, Executive Member of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) said no FIR has been registered so far either by the parents or the child panel as the inquiry is still underway. Udaipur MP Dr. Mannalal Rawat wrote to chief minister Bhajanlal Sharma and Union home minister Amit Shah seeking a high-level probe.
