Barmer/Jalore, Feb. 21 -- A six-year-old student was killed on Friday after a newly constructed wall collapsed at a private school in Jalore district, officials said. According to officials, the deceased girl, Preeti Kumari, was a Class 2 student at the school.The incident took place at around 3.30pm at Marudhar Shikshan Sansthan, located in Bawatra village under Sayla police station limits, they said. The school had constructed temporary classrooms in an open ground area, officials said. Cement brick walls measuring approximately 5 to 7 feet high had been erected. Bamboo poles were placed on top of the walls and covered with tarpaulin sheets to form makeshift rooms. According to officials, the wall that collapsed was reportedly about 8 feet high and was being supported by bamboo poles. At the time of the incident, Preeti, daughter of farmer Bhawarlal Meghwal from Asana village, was playing in the school premises with other children when the wall suddenly gave way and collapsed. She was trapped under the debris of bricks, officials said. Jalore district collector Pradeep Gawande said, "The accident occurred at a private school where a newly constructed wall collapsed. A six-year-old girl died in the incident. Police and administrative teams are at the spot and are investigating the matter." Assistant sub inspector Maipal Singh said, "One girl has died. Though her family members have not given any complaint so far, we have initiated investigation at our own level." According to ASI Singh, soon after the incident, the owner of the school absconded. Local residents and family members rushed to the spot after being informed. Police and administrative officials also reached the scene. The child's body was sent for post-mortem examination, police said. Till the filing of this report, the deceased girl's family and community members were staging a protest outside the community health centre. Preliminary information suggests that authorities have begun investigating the structural condition of the school building. Marudhar Shikshan Sansthan, which offers education up to Class 12 and has approximately 350 students enrolled, was established around 5-6 years ago by Kapur Giri and Dinesh Giri. Further investigation into the incident is ongoing, police said. This is the third incident within a year in Rajasthan where students have died due to the collapse of school structures.
