5 suffer complications after C-section delivery
JODHPUR, July 19 -- One woman remains on ventilator support while four others are under intensive medical care after developing serious complications following caesarean deliveries over the past two days, officials said on Saturday.
The five women, all suffering from excessive postpartum bleeding and other complications, were referred from hospitals in Osian, Jaitaran, Shergarh, Nagaur and Pali to Government Ummed Hospital, Jodhpur. Hospital authorities said on Saturday that while two patients were initially placed on ventilator support and three were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), one woman has since improved and been shifted to oxygen support, leaving only one patient on a ventilator.
Ummed Hospital superintendent Dr Mohan Makwana said all five women are under close medical supervision. He said patients referred from remote areas often reach the tertiary care hospital in critical condition after developing complications during or after childbirth. "All patients are being closely monitored and every effort is being made to ensure their recovery," Dr Makwana said, adding that regular antenatal check-ups and timely referral of high-risk pregnancies remain critical to preventing life-threatening complications during delivery.
According to hospital authorities, Saroj, referred from Osian after developing cardiac complications during pregnancy, continues to be on ventilator support. Doctors plan to conduct an MRI once her condition stabilises. Rekha, referred from a private hospital in Pali with severe postpartum bleeding and HELLP syndrome, was initially placed on a ventilator but has shown improvement and is now on oxygen support.
Pooja, referred from Shergarh after excessive bleeding, is being treated in the ICU. Roshni, referred from a private hospital in Nagaur, had pre-existing hypertension and remains in the ICU on oxygen support. Another patient, Bajju, was referred from a private hospital in Jaitaran and is also under treatment.
Hospital officials said the latest admissions have taken the number of women who have developed serious health complications following caesarean deliveries at Ummed Hospital and associated referral cases to 13 over the past month.
The latest cases come just days after another controversy at Ummed Hospital, where a woman, Dhapu, was allegedly transfused with the wrong blood group after two patients with the same name were mistakenly identified. Following which her condition deteriorated. She developed acute kidney complications and was shifted to Mahatma Gandhi Hospital on July 13, where she remains in the ICU and is undergoing dialysis.
Meanwhile, the family of a 25-year-old woman who died after a caesarean delivery at a government hospital in Neem Ka Thana continued its protest for the third consecutive day on Saturday, demanding action against the doctors concerned, while former chief minister Ashok Gehlot sought a fair and impartial investigation into the case....
