JODHPUR, July 23 -- Two serving life convicts were married on Wednesday, at the Open Air Camp in Mandore, Jodhpur, after the Rajasthan High Court had permitted the union last week. Moolaram, 33, convicted of murdering a youth over a family dispute, and Seema Ghadse, 31, serving a life sentence for murdering her husband, exchanged vows in a small ceremony held inside Open Air Camp where Moolaram is lodged and attended by family members, prison officials and police. Jail sub-inspector Ramchandra Sharma called the High Court order a milestone for rehabilitation and social reintegration. "We all became witnesses to this marriage and hope the newly married couple begins a new journey in life. This order will go a long way in strengthening the reformative approach of the prison system," he said. A division bench of the HC authorised the wedding on July 15, noting that the right of two consenting adults to marry is an inseparable facet of the right to life and liberty under Article 21 of the Constitution, adding that such marriages could promote rehabilitation and reintegration of prisoners into society. dinesh bohtra...
