2 dead as bus falls into Ajmer gorge
Ajmer, April 20 -- Two women were killed and over 30 people were injured after a mini bus carrying passengers fell into a deep gorge in the Pushkar Valley area of Ajmer district on Sunday, police said.
The accident occurred when a the vehicle carrying around 35-40 passengers lost control and veered off the main road, plunging into a deep gorge near Sanjhisar village, said police.
Circle Officer (rural), Ramchandra Chaudhary said the incident took place around noon while the bus was travelling from Ajmer to Pushkar. The vehicle suddenly went off the road and fell nearly 200 feet down, getting stuck in trees and bushes, which likely prevented an even bigger tragedy.
With the help of local residents and passersby, a swift rescue operation was launched. A total of 33 injured passengers were pulled out and rushed to Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital for treatment.
Emergency response teams, including SDRF, Civil Defence and local police, carried out the rescue operation at the accident site. Senior officials, including District Collector Lokbandhu and Superintendent of Police Harshvardhan Agarwal, rushed to the spot to oversee relief efforts.
Two women-Pooja (28), wife of Vijay Singh Gurjar and Vimla Devi (50), both residents of Ajmer - succumbed to their injuries. Officials said one victim died at the spot while the other passed away during treatment.
Hospital superintendent Dr Arvind Khare confirmed that around 30 injured persons are currently undergoing treatment in different wards, while one patient has been discharged.
SP Agrawal said that the bus was travelling from Ajmer to Pushkar to attend a family function.
Authorities have initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident, police said....
