JAIPUR, Oct. 29 -- The Rajasthan State Sports Council (RSSC) will soon begin recruitment of 140 permanent coaches for various sports, giving a leg-up to budding sportspersons who are struggling due to lack of guidance. The RSSC has written to the Rajasthan Staff Selection Board (RSSB) to begin the process of recruitment. The move comes weeks after HT reported a shortage of specialised coaches and training facilities across districts. Sports secretary Rajkesh Meena said the government plans to hire 140 coaches on a permanent basis for various sports. "We have written to the RSSB to begin the process. However, there are technical issues that have to be sorted out. It will take time." Earlier, the Sports Council used to recruit coaches but now with the RSSB taking over the process, changes have to be made in the rules. "There is no provision for a written exam or physical test in the RSSB rules, so these will have to be added. Once the rules are in place, only then the advertisements can be issued for recruitment," he said. "Candidates will have to appear for a written exam. Based on that candidates will be short-listed and then they will be called for a physical test. After the physical test, the successful candidates will have to submit their documents and also give a demonstration which will be vetted by sports experts. The process will take several months". "Those who are selected will be deputed to different districts in the state and will have to coach and guide young players in various sports disciplines," the sports secretary said. He said the sports council will also hire 700 temporary coaches for various sports. "The process has started. We have a Khel Mitra portal on the Rajasthan Sports Council website. Candidates can apply there. Those who are short-listed will be called for interviews." Candidates between 18 years and 40 years will be eligible to apply for the posts, he added. Players who have represented Rajasthan in state championships will be eligible to apply. Those who have a graduate or post graduate diploma in sports category will be able to apply. Sports experts and athletes from Rajasthan can also apply. In its October 6 report, HT had highlighted that Rajasthan had only 65 permanent coaches against an estimated requirement of more than 1,000 to develop world-class athletes....
