Ten booked for roadside assault
Gurugram, June 1 -- Police have booked 10 people for allegedly assaulting a 32-year-old man and robbing him in the middle of a road in Gurugram's Sector 14 on Friday night, an officer said on Sunday.
Based on the victim's statement and medical records, a case was registered under sections 126(2) (wrongful restraint), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 190 (unlawful assembly) and 191(2) (rioting) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
According to the victim, a resident of Rajiv Nagar, Sector 13, the incident occurred around 10.15pm as he was returning home from Sector 14 in an SUV driven by his acquaintance.
However, near Nokia Care on New Mata Road, the victim noticed a motorcycle, an SUV without a registration plate, and a hatchback following them. When their car halted due to heavy traffic ahead, they were overpowered, and a vehicle hit them from behind.
According to the complaint, the suspect dragged the victim out of the SUV and brutally assaulted him with sticks, a steel container and a glass bottle, leaving him unconscious. When his acquaintance tried to intervene, he was also assaulted, but received minor injuries.
Police said the accused took away the gold chain the victim was wearing and Rs.15,000 in cash kept inside the car. His acquaintance called the victim's brother, who rushed them to a private hospital in Palam Vihar, they added.
The hospital alerted the police, and a medico-legal report was conducted, officers aware of the case said.
Police said efforts are underway to identify and apprehend all those involved in the assault and verify the allegations of robbery and theft.
To be sure, the victim's acquaintance did not register a police complaint, and the FIR names only one person as a victim, police told HT....
