school body asks hc to stay delhi govt's fee panel order
New Delhi, Feb. 25 -- An umbrella body of over 670 private schools on Tuesday urged the Delhi High Court to stay a notification advancing the formation of school-level fee regulation committees (SLFRC) by February 10 to determine fees for three academic years starting 2026-27.
The Action Committee of Unaided Private Schools contended the February 1 Directorate of Education (DoE) notification contradicts the Delhi School Education Act, 2025.
Senior counsel Akhil Sibal argued before chief justice DK Upadhyaya and justice Tejas Karia that the order misreads the Act, which requires fee fixation for an upcoming year to be completed in the preceding year. "You cannot fix it for the academic year 2026-27, in 2026-27," Sibal said.
The DoE defended it as a "one-time measure" in a February 16 affidavit.
Sibal submitted timelines cannot be adhered to. The matter will be heard on February 25....
