Gurugram, Aug. 6 -- Several parts of Gurugram, including Sohna Road, Badshahpur, Sectors 67 and 71, and the Dwarka Expressway, experienced prolonged power outages after heavy rain triggered faults in feeders, while unauthorised roadside excavation for sewer lines damaged underground power infrastructure, officials said. Among the worst affected were residents of Pyramid Urban in Sector-67, Signature Global Andour Heights in Sector-71, and the Pareena Laxmi and Pareena Coban societies in Sector-99 along the Dwarka Expressway, besides malls and business parks on Sohna Road. The situation was further aggravated as severe waterlogging following Tuesday evening's heavy rain delayed repair works by several hours, officials said. At Pyramid Urban, power remained disrupted for up to 52 hours after a series of faults developed in the society's internal power infrastructure, prompting residents to stage a protest on Wednesday morning. Police were deployed to pacify protesters, resulting in traffic snarls. Residents alleged several families shifted to relatives' homes and hotels because of the prolonged outage amid humid weather. Resident Souvik Roy said supply was disrupted from 4.30pm on Monday until 8.30pm on Wednesday. "We were complaining to the realty firm as well as the discom but were neither getting any resolution or any proper reply which forced residents to come in the road," he said. "I took leave on Tuesday and shifted to a hotel by booking two rooms with my pregnant wife, daughter, and parents, by paying Rs.5,000 per night... We have not even been able to wash our clothes," Roy said. Residents said the DG set promised on Tuesday night arrived only on Wednesday evening. "We are paying Rs.2,900 monthly maintenance... Inverters got drained and there was no water supply. Children and elderly were worst affected," said resident Akshay Sharma. In response, Parmod Kumar, Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited executive engineer (Badshahpur division), said faults developed in infrastructure installed by the realty firm at Pyramid Urban, including a 33kV transformer, a control panel and a 33kV underground cable damaged due to unauthorised digging and waterlogging. "There was no disruption in power supply from DHBVN during all these times," he added. Discom officials said outages in several business parks, malls and other commercial establishments along Sohna Road were caused by local faults and damage to independent feeders following unauthorised roadside digging for sewer lines. As a result, many buildings had to rely on diesel generator sets for several hours until repairs were completed. Multiple attempts by HT to contact the management of Pyramid Urban for its response to the residents' allegations were unsuccessful. At Signature Global Andour Heights, residents reported a 14-hour outage. Sharmishtha Ghosh said power was fully restored by 10.30pm after brief resumption. In response, Rajiv Kumar, maintenance engineer, Andour Heights, attributed the outage to a fault at the 66kV substation in Sector-47. However, DHBVN officials said the primary issue was a damaged feeder supplying power to the society, which was repaired by Tuesday night. HVPB officials also refuted claims that a fault at the Sector-47 substation had caused the prolonged outage. Meanwhile, unauthorised excavation damaged an 11kV underground feeder powering Pareena Laxmi and Pareena Coban in Sector-99, causing a four to five-hour outage before repairs were completed....
