Nuh sarpanch arrested for bribing officials
Gurugram, Oct. 16 -- The Haryana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested a sarpanch from Nuh for allegedly bribing several government employees and an SDM-rank officer to end an inquiry against him over forging educational documents to contest the panchayat election, officials said on Wednesday.
The accused, Rampal, who had won from the Karhera panchayat of Firozpur Jhirka, had been absconding for seven months after being booked on February 6 in a corruption case at the ACB police station in Gurugram. He was arrested from Karhera, where he had returned briefly to visit his family, the ACB said.
Rampal was arrested on Monday and produced before a Nuh court on Tuesday, which granted the ACB three-day police remand.
"We are quizzing him to ascertain if he bribed the SDM and if yes, then how much. If strong evidence surfaces, we will take action against the SDM too," a senior ACB official said, declining to be named.
Officials said Rampal was dismissed from his post by Nuh deputy commissioner Dhirendra Khadata in March 2024. He had allegedly paid Rs.7 lakh to Jubair Ahmed, a stenographer in the SDM's office, for a favourable report. Jubair later approached the ACB and lodged a complaint.
Three others, including computer operator Pardeep and village secretary Mohammad Hasin, have also been arrested. The SDM, posted in northern Haryana, remains under investigation, officials said....
