Gurugram, July 10 -- A 25-year-old police personnel was killed and another was left critically injured on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway in Nuh on Thursday after a speeding truck rammed a stationary truck seized by police, police said. Police identified the deceased as Girish Kumar, a police constable. According to the police, the accident took place when a police team was carrying out a raid following a tip-off about cattle being smuggled in a truck. The team had intercepted the vehicle, and rescued 15 cattle while taking its driver into custody, said officials. "While three police personnel were standing in front of the truck along the expressway, other members of their team left for Mohammadpur Ahir police station with the apprehended suspect to complete legal formalities. Suddenly, a speeding fodder-laden truck rammed into the seized vehicle from behind," a senior police officer told HT requesting anonymity. "The incident killed Kumar on the spot while injuring a sub-inspector," the officer added. "The force of the impact was such that the stranded truck moved several feet ahead mowing down the constable. He was trapped beneath the wheels," he said. The sub-inspector, who sustained severe injuries was rushed to a private hospital, where his condition continues to be critical, police said. Krishan Kumar, public relations officer (Nuh police) said the driver of the truck, probably dozed off, ended up hitting the intercepted truck. "He immediately fled from the scene after the incident," he said. Two separate FIRs were registered against the unidentified truck driver under section 106 (causing death by negligence) and 281 (rash driving) of BNS and another for cattle smuggling under relevant sections, said officials....
