NHRC reviews Delhi missing persons data
New Delhi, Feb. 10 -- The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognisance of media reports citing Delhi Police data that 807 people, including 191 children, went missing in the Capital in the first two weeks of January, with only 235 traced. The commission noted data showing 24,508 people reported missing in Delhi in 2025, with 9,087 unresolved.
"The commission has observed that the contents of the news report, if true, raise serious issues of violation of human rights. Therefore, it has issued notices to the chief secretary, Delhi, and the commissioner of police, Delhi, calling for a detailed report on the matter within two weeks," it stated.
On the day the report was published, Delhi Police issued a statement assuring no cause for panic, particularly about missing children. A day later, it warned of action against those using "paid promotion" to create a "hype" over missing reports. HTC...
