Gurugram, May 21 -- Amid ongoing flyover construction on the Gurugram-Delhi (NH-48) expressway near Manesar Bus Stand, authorities on Wednesday closed a 6-kilometre one-way stretch from IMT Chowk towards Bhishma Temple for vehicles travelling from Jaipur to Delhi, officials said. The partial closure has increased traffic pressure on service lanes, resulting in wrong-side driving, jaywalking and illegal parking, choking alternative routes, according to a spot check conducted on Wednesday afternoon. Officials have not said how long the closure will remain. Traffic officials said no major congestion had been reported on the construction stretch so far, but wrong-side traffic continued to disrupt movement. "The unregulated traffic flow from internal areas in Khoh, Kasan and Sector 1, opposite fast-moving vehicular traffic from Jaipur, clogs service lanes," said an enforcement official, requesting anonymity. Ajay Sharma, a local businessman and daily commuter to Faridabad, said two-wheeler riders, e-rickshaw drivers and pedestrians were taking shortcuts to avoid a 5km detour for a U-turn near the Haryana-IGNOU community college. "Illegal cuts to main carriageways exasperate the problem. Alternative parking solutions are required to free the service lanes," Sharma said. Meanwhile, Prem Prajapati, a resident of Kasan, said underbridge crossings for pedestrians had been barricaded. "Separate stopping points for buses are required. Each halt triggers snarls during the peak hours," he said. A senior traffic police official said teams had been deployed every 100 metres on link roads to curb wrong-side driving. "Commuters are advised to take internal routes," the official added. Advisories have been issued directing heavy vehicles towards the KMP expressway via Pataudi, while no-entry restrictions are being enforced at Panchgaon Chowk during peak hours....
