Gurugram, Sept. 11 -- The enforcement wing of Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority on Wednesday cleared around 3 acres of land in Sector 31 that had been illegally occupied for the last 15 years. GMDA officials said that the land has been earmarked for green belt but 100 unauthorised jhuggis (slums) were constructed on the site. Despite notices, the encroachers failed to vacate the area, they added. RS Bhath, district town planner, GMDA said that enforcement wing team with support of Gururgam police and area RWAs removed the jhuggis. "A two-month notice was served to clear the green belt. Even after repeated notices and sufficient time for relocation, the land remained encroached. During the third and final inspection, a two day ultimatum was given to vacate the site. The encroachments were removed today and the government land was vacated," said Bhath. GMDA officials said that the encroachment led to severe deterioration of the environment and sanitation conditions in the area.
