Ggm leads Hry in new HHRC complaints
Gurugram, Aug. 27 -- The district has recorded the highest number of fresh instituted cases in Haryana in 2024, according to the latest statistical report of the State Commission. Gurugram registered 271 new cases this year, up from 236 each in 2022 and 2023, making it the only district to show a rise while most others reported declines.
Statewide, 2,127 fresh cases were filed in 2024, compared to 2,479 in 2023 and 2,595 in 2022, reflecting a downward trend overall.
To be sure, under the Commission's statistical framework, "instituted cases" refer to fresh complaints formally lodged by individuals or groups before the HHRC within a calendar year. These span issues including service matters, women's rights, police complaints, pollution, labour disputes, and minority rights.
Service-related complaints and women's issues dominated Gurugram's tally, with 170 and 115 cases, respectively. The district also recorded 39 jail-related complaints, 36 labour disputes, 24 pollution-linked cases, and 21 involving children's rights.
Nine cases related to caste-based discrimination, and two concerned communal or religious violence. Miscellaneous categories such as property disputes, pensions, and welfare schemes also accounted for a sizeable share.
Across Haryana, about 41 percent of 2024 complaints were resolved, 38 percent remain pending, and 21 percent were dismissed at a preliminary stage. Gurugram mirrored this, with 110 cases disposed of and over 100 under inquiry.
Deep Bhatia, a member of the Haryana Human Rights Commission, called the situation a "matter of concern". Independent legal expert Rajeev Yadav said, "The data reveals not only rising grievances but also a backlog in resolution. Gurugram's surge.is a warning sign."
Faridabad ranked second with 220 cases, Panchkula 164, and Nuh dropped from 116 to 45. Panipat, Sonipat, Ambala, and Rohtak remained stable....
