Gurugram, Aug. 16 -- Gurugram celebrated the 80th Independence Day on Saturday with a flag-hoisting ceremony at Tau Devi Lal Stadium, parade and cultural programmes. Haryana assembly deputy speaker Krishan Lal Middha unfurled the flag, inspected the parade and paid floral tribute at the Veer and Shaheed Smarak. Seven contingents led by assistant commissioner of police Abhilaksh Joshi participated: Gurugram Police, women police, traffic police, home guards, NCC senior boys, student police cadets and Prajatantra ke Prahari. Traffic police secured first, followed by women police and Prajatantra ke Prahari. Students presented "Vande Mataram" by Pranavananda International School, Sector 92, Krishna Leela by PM Shri Government Senior Secondary School, Arjun Nagar, Punjabi, Rajasthani and Haryanvi folk dances by Blue Bells School, Sector 4. Meanwhile, at sub-divisional level, Tejpal Tanwar, Bimla Chaudhary, Mukesh Sharma and Satish Phagna unfurled flags in Sohna, Pataudi, Manesar and Badshahpur. DLF's "Freedom Run" drew 1,000 residents from Club5 to DLF Summit Plaza, with a flash mob and recreational activities. At International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT), director Saurabh Dalela called for investment in advanced technology, innovation and research.
