Gurugram, Nov. 5 -- Traffic snarls continued across Gurugram on Wednesday as the festive shopping rush left several arterial roads congested, with traffic police expecting slow movement to persist over the next two to three days in the run-up to Diwali. Heavy congestion was reported around Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex nearly throughout the day, particularly on roads approaching it from Tau Devi Lal Chowk. Traffic officials said an increase in vehicles carrying gifts and other festive purchases had added to the congestion. Snarls were also reported along a nearly 2km stretch of National Highway-48 (NH-48), from the Delhi-Gurugram border towards DLF Cyber City. Wednesday marked the fourth consecutive day of peak-hour congestion at the border since Delhi imposed restrictions on the entry of non-Delhi vehicles that do not meet BS-VI emission standards on November 1. The congestion spilled over to roads in and around Udyog Vihar and Rao Gajraj Marg. Traffic police officials, however, attributed the snarls primarily to the festive rush, saying checks for compliance with pollution norms at the border had not contributed significantly to the congestion. Sikanderpur Ghosi also witnessed heavy traffic throughout the day, with officials expecting the situation to persist until Diwali. "Several malls are located in the area, and a large number of residents are visiting them for festive shopping, adding to the traffic congestion," a traffic police official told HT. Grand Mall, Mega Mall and Megacity Mall are among the shopping centres in the vicinity. The festive rush also affected roads around Sadar Bazaar, where queues stretched nearly 1km along adjoining roads. Officials said that slow movement was also reported on MG Road, Old Railway Road, Old Delhi-Gurugram Road, and roads near Valley View Estate and Narsinghpur....
