Gurugram, Oct. 1 -- The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram has intensified its drive from Wednesday to recover outstanding water bills and check illegal and unauthorised connections across the city, officials said. The civic body has formed two special teams to inspect connections, identify defaulters and verify accounts against municipal records. Action is being taken under the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994 and applicable water-supply regulations and bye-laws, including disconnection of unauthorised connections and recovery of outstanding dues. During inspections in industrial areas of sectors 18 and 33, several connections were disconnected after officials found bills unpaid for long periods, with dues in some cases around Rs.5 lakh, Rs.14 lakh and higher. MCG commissioner Pradeep Dahiya said the drive aimed to recover municipal dues and update water connection records. "Consumers must ensure that their water connections are duly authorised and outstanding bills are cleared within the stipulated time. The MCG will continue inspections and take action against persistent defaulters and unauthorised connections," Dahiya added. The drive will cover different parts of the city. Consumers with unauthorised connections have been asked to regularise them through the prescribed process, failing which they may be disconnected. The MCG also urged consumers to clear dues, update connection and billing records, and link connections with property IDs on its portal. The exercise aims to streamline billing, and recover long-pending dues, officials said....
