Gurugram, Aug. 10 -- A 24-year-old man wanted for attempted murder and assault was injured in a shoot-out with Faridabad Police's crime branch at IMT Faridabad late Friday night, officials said on Saturday. The suspect, identified as Bharat alias Bholu, a native of Kacheda in Gautam Buddha Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, often sheltered in Friends' Colony, Faridabad, and carried a Rs.5,000 reward announced by Haryana Police. According to investigators, Bharat had been on the run for over a month after a violent attack on property dealer Sumer Nagar, 44, of Tigaon. Police said Bharat and his associates assaulted Nagar over a land dispute, "breaking bones in all four of his limbs." The dispute arose when Nagar, handling the property's sale, refused to let Bharat forcibly seize it. Nagar remains bedridden. ACP (crime) Varun Kumar Dahiya said police received a tip-off that Bharat was travelling from Sotai to Machhgar village. "When the team tried to intercept him, Bharat attempted to flee on his motorcycle. After losing balance and falling, he opened fire on police personnel," Dahiya said. One bullet struck the bulletproof jacket of a pursuing policeman. Police fired back after warnings, hitting Bharat in the right leg. He was taken to Ballabhgarh government hospital. Police will formally arrest him once he is medically fit. From the site, officers recovered a countrymade pistol, four empty and two live cartridges, a motorcycle, and other items. An FIR has been lodged under relevant sections of the BNS. Police said Bharat already had at least five criminal cases in Faridabad, including kidnapping, attempted murder, robbery, and assault.
