PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 27 -- The Allahabad High Court on Friday took suo motu cognisance of a report on nine passengers killed in a sleeper bus fire on Yamuna Expressway in Greater Noida on September 24 and sought a detailed Uttar Pradesh government report. Justice Saurabh Shyam Shamshery directed affidavits by October 13 on permits, safety checks, bus modifications and commercial parcels. "There is scope for improvement" in checking, the court said, observing, "It appears that AC sleeper buses are operating without proper check and without proper safeguards, such as fire extinguishers, etc." It sought details on inspections, checkpoints, emergency exits, training and action in similar accidents, citing 45 bus fires, 64 deaths and 145 injuries from January 2023 to December 10, 2025.HTC...
