16-yr-old girl dies in east Delhi: Police
New Delhi, Feb. 9 -- A 16-year-old girl, who had filed a case of rape and criminal intimidation against her 22-year-old husband last year before retracting parts of her allegations, died on Saturday after falling ill at her parents' home in east Delhi's Geeta Colony, police said Sunday. Investigations into her earlier complaints are ongoing.
Deputy commissioner of police (Shahdara) Prashant Gautam said the exact cause of death is unknown. The teenager was declared dead at Lok Nayak Hospital after falling ill at her parents' residence. The girl was married on July 3 2025, despite being a minor, to a relative from Rampur, Uttar Pradesh.
On October 29, a medico-legal case report stated she had ingested acid. Initially, she and her mother told police she consumed it "on her own." In January, her mother alleged domestic abuse, sexual assault, and that her daughter was "forced" to ingest acid. "In view of the victim's age, a case was registered under relevant sections of rape, criminal intimidation and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act," said the DCP. "The victim gave a contradictory statement... Based on her version, legal sections were applied." An autopsy was conducted Sunday, but doctors reserved their opinion awaiting further reports.jignasa sinha...
