Chandigarh, May 5 -- In a dramatic twist in the broad daylight murder of property dealer Charanpreet Singh, alias Cheeni, outside a Sector-9 gym on March 18, police have arrested a woman, reportedly a relative of an additional director general of police (ADGP) level police officer of Punjab, for hiring hitmen for the job. Police said the accused, Amreen, a resident of Sector 35, held a grudge againstChamanpreet Singh alias Cheeni, 31, over a propertydeal. She had recently purchased a house in New Chandigarh, which, she felt, was sold to her at an inflated price. What irked her more was that the possession of property had been delayed, which was causing her financial losses. Driven by revenge, she allegedly got in touch with gangster Lucky Patial, through another property dealer, Harshpreet Singh Bains, and hatched a plan to eliminate him. Patial managed the logistics and provided shooters - Rajan alias Piyush Pehlwan and Pritam - after Amreen agreed to pay a substantial amount for the hit job. Police said Amreen remained in regular communication with Lucky Patial, through encrypted communication apps, till the crime was executed. The breakthrough for the police came when Bains was arrested on April 29, with an imported .45 bore pistol and two live cartridges. Investigations revealed that the weapon was registered in the name of Amreen, and subsequently arrested her. With this, Chandigarh Police said all accused in the case have been arrested. Previously, five accused - shooters Rajan alias Piyush Pahalwan and Pritam Shah, logistics providers Rahul Sharma, Kamalpreet and Mukul Rana, and gang operatives Deepak Kumar alias Deepu and Sahil - were arrested....
