Warring asks party workers to be battle ready for 2027 polls
Ludhiana, Aug. 17 -- At the annual conference in Issru, organised in memory of Karnail Singh Issru who lost his life during the Goa liberation movement in 1955, Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring gave a clarion call to the party's rank and file to be battle ready for the 2027 elections. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) organised separate events to woo the masses.
Warring said his ambition was to see the party return to power in Punjab - not to claim the chief minister's chair.
"When the party is strong, I am strong," Warring said, dismissing speculation about internal rivalries.
Warring accused the state government of financial mismanagement, claiming the party had brought the state to the brink of bankruptcy.
He alleged that the AAP sought to acquire farmers' land to fund its welfare schemes - a move, he said, was thwarted by farmer resistance.
Quashing rumours of factionalism, Warring said, "There is no division. Every leader and worker is united in the mission to ensure a Congress victory in 2027," calling the next 18 months "crucial for Punjab and for the party."
Warring also slammed the BJP, accusing it of manipulating electoral processes with the help of the Election Commission.
In another event, the SAD appealed to Punjabis to defeat the "conspiracies formed in Delhi" to weaken the party even as it accused Giani Harpreet Singh of fronting this conspiracy. Former deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal gave a miss to the conference.
Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Harjinder Singh Dhami called on Punjabis to launch a campaign on social media for the release of Bandi Singhs (Sikh prisoners).
Senior leader Maheshinder Singh Grewal warned against attempts to "confuse and mislead" SAD workers through "breakaway factions led by Giani Harpreet".
Daljit Singh Cheema accused Giani Harpreet of backtracking on his own "hukamnama" of December 2 by setting up a parallel establishment.
Cabinet ministers Aman Arora and Tarunpreet Singh Sond paid floral tributes to Shaheed Karnail Singh Issru.
Sond highlighted development projects in Issru, including an Aam Aadmi Clinic, a library, a new panchayat home and other initiatives worth Rs.10 crore....
