Chandigarh, March 11 -- Senior superintendent of police Kanwardeep Kaur has proceeded on leave following the completion of her three-year tenure in the union territory. Her inter-cadre deputation from the Punjab Police to the AGMUT cadre ended on March 8. Kaur assumed charge as Chandigarh SSP on March 9, 2023, becoming only the second woman officer to head the city police. During her tenure, she oversaw several key policing initiatives and law-and-order operations in the UT. Following her departure on leave, the charge of Chandigarh SSP has been handed over to Sumer Pratap Singh, who is currently serving as the city's traffic SSP. Meanwhile, UT administrator Gulab Chand Kataria had recommended Kaur's continuation in Chandigarh. The proposal was subsequently accepted by the ministry of home affairs, which forwarded the file to the appointments committee of the cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Officials said the committee is expected to issue the formal order regarding her continuation shortly. htc...
