Chandigarh, July 31 -- The Haryana government has launched a comprehensive action plan to rejuvenate the Yamuna by setting up 18 new sewage treatment plants (STPs) with a total capacity of 621 MLD, upgrading technology for six existing STPs, and 12 common effluent treatment plant (CETPs) projects for industrial clusters. Besides, integrated solid waste management clusters in all 33 urban local bodies, six biogas plants for scientific dairy waste processing, and restoration of all identified ponds along the Yamuna corridor will be done. This was stated by chief secretary Anurag Rastogi during a review of the implementation roadmap for ecological restoration in the Yamuna basin. Rastogi was assessing the progress of the Yamuna Action Plan which aims at expanding treatment infrastructure, addressing gaps in sewage and industrial effluent management, improving solid waste processing, and protecting water bodies in the river catchment.
