Trump cites CEC, India poll rules to push US voter ID bill
Washington, Aug. 19 -- US President Donald Trump on Monday cited India's photo ID-based voting system and directly named Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in a renewed push for Congress to pass the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act, claiming Kumar had asked the US administration how elections could be held without valid photo ID.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump attributed a specific question to the CEC. "Earlier this month, India's Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar, asked our Administration -- How can you have Elections in the US without a valid Photo ID? India's last Election had 646,000,000 Voters! Less than 1 per cent voted by mail, and every single Voter had to have a VALID Photo Identity Document. We need to pass THE SAVE AMERICA ACT, now!"
