Shimla, April 29 -- Himachal Pradesh state election commissioner Anil Khachi on Tuesday announced that elections to 3,754 gram panchayats will take place in three phases on May 26, 28 and 30, with counting scheduled for May 31. The poll schedule comes after the Supreme Court pulled up the state government and directed it to complete the local body elections by the end of May. According to Khachi, around 50.79 lakh voters are eligible to vote, including over 25.11 lakh women, more than 25.67 lakh men and 29 voters from other gender categories. A total of 52,350 voters will be casting their vote for the first time.
