Rs.89-cr fine imposed on actor Ranya Rao
Bengaluru, Oct. 2 -- The Customs Department has imposed a penalty of Rs.89 crore on Kannada actor Ranya Rao, holding her liable for violations related to the alleged smuggling of gold from Dubai to India, officials aware of the matter said on Thursday.
The adjudication order, issued by Customs department joint director Sandeep on Wednesday, also imposes a Rs.49.51 crore penalty on Tarun Konduru Raju and Rs.53.06 crore each on Sahil Jain and Bharat Kumar Jain, the people said.
A Customs officer familiar with the proceedings said the financial penalty proceedings are distinct from the criminal case. The Customs investigation relates to alleged smuggling between March 7, 2024, and February 18, 2025. Investigators have alleged that about 113 kg of gold was brought into India from Dubai....
