People will speak of Isro over Nasa soon: Shukla
Lucknow, Aug. 26 -- "The day is not far away when people will speak of Isro over Nasa...," said Indian Air Force Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, who recently became the first Indian to visit the International Space Station (ISS) as part of an Axiom-4 mission, as he received a hero's welcome in his hometown of Lucknow on Monday.
Family members, including his parents Shambhu and Asha Shukla, wife Kamna, and son Kiash, were present at the Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport to greet him. They were joined by cheering crowds waving the Tricolour and chanting "Vande Mataram".
Reflecting on his homecoming, Shukla added with a smile, "Since I landed in Lucknow around 7:30 this morning, I must have clicked about 2,000 selfies. The famous saying, 'Muskuraiye, Aap Lucknow Mein Hain', truly came alive for me today."
"Coming home to such a heartfelt welcome was overwhelming...," he said.
Adding to the celebratory atmosphere, a troupe played drums and trumpets, while students from Shukla's alma mater, City Montessori School (CMS), came dressed in vibrant costumes representing space missions and celestial objects.
Wearing a brown Air Force jacket with insignia and the Indian flag proudly displayed on his sleeve and an Isro emblem on the other sleeve, Shukla waved and smiled at onlookers who showered him with applause.
Later, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath, who felicitated Shukla in the presence of Isro Chairman V Narayanan, deputy chief ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, and state BJP chief Bhupendra Chaudhary, announced a scholarship in the astronaut's name for students of UP aspiring to study space technology....
