NEW DELHI/BENGALURU, Feb. 27 -- Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla has reconstituted the three-member committee tasked with probing the allegations against Allahabad high court judge justice Yashwant Varma over discovery of unaccounted cash at his official residence in Delhi last year. Parliament functionaries familiar with the matter said the committee has been given a three-month extension. A formal announcement to this effect will be made by Birla when the second half of the budget session starts on March 9, they added on condition of anonymity. A gazette notification issued on February 25 stated that, in partial modification of the August 12, 2025 notification under Section 3(2) of the Judges (Inquiry) Act, 1968, the Speaker has reconstituted the committee with effect from March 6. The new panel replaces Madras high court chief justice MM Shrivastava with Bombay high court chief justice Shree Chandrashekhar, while the other two members from the original panel , Supreme Court judge Justice Aravind Kumar and senior advocate BV Acharya, continue. The move comes ahead of retirement of Madras HC chief justice MM Shrivastava. As first reported by HT on February 9, the committee had expedited its in-camera proceedings in recent weeks precisely because of Justice Shrivastava's impending retirement. htc...
