Omar seeks extension of 'Pride of Hills' package to J&K
New Delhi, June 12 -- Jammu and Kashmir seeks a partnership to transform its resilience, resources and human potential into a stronger contribution to national growth and development, chief minister Omar Abdullah said on Thursday as he urged the Centre to extend "Pride of Hills" package to the Union Territory.
Omar was speaking at the 11th Governing Council meeting of NITI Aayog.
Under the Centre's Special Assistance to states for Capital Investment or SASCI, "Pride of Hills" initiative provides financial assistance to hill states for infrastructure development.
"J&K seeks partnership and convergence to transform its resilience, resources and human potential into a stronger contribution to national growth and development," Abdullah said.
Presenting the development scenario of J&K, the chief minister said the social indicators continue to be strong, with improvements in healthcare, education, and social protection.
Omar, however, emphasised that development financing frameworks must adequately account for geographicaldisadvantages. He called for extension of the SASCI 'Pride of Hills' Special Development Assistance to J&K on the same principles applicable to other hill states....
