Nasscom backs hybrid work to cut energy use
New Delhi, May 12 -- Indian technology companies have been adopting prudent management measures, including enabling remote or hybrid work, information technology (IT) industry body Nasscom said on Monday, a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged citizens and businesses to revive 'Covid-era' Work From Home (WFH) and virtual meeting arrangements to help the country combat the global energy crisis.
"In light of the ongoing Middle East tensions, companies have adopted prudent energy management measures across campuses, including optimising non-essential consumption, rationalising select facility services, and enabling remote or hybrid work where operationally appropriate to reduce overall energy usage and commuting," Nasscom said.
Terming the geopolitical scenario an "evolving situation", Nasscom stated that it is closely monitoring developments and is engaged with industry stakeholders and government authorities to ensure a "coordinated and responsible response" to the situation.
With over 3,500 member companies, Nasscom represents India's $315-billion technology industry.
Separately, an association representing IT and IT-enabled services employees has written to the Union labour ministry, seeking an advisory that would mandate work-from-home for the sector....
