Bhubaneswar, March 30 -- Police detained a 71-year-old man in Bhubaneswar after a 12-year-old girl he employed as a domestic help was rescued with multiple burn and assault injuries, officers said. The girl is undergoing treatment at a hospital and is stable, police added. According to the police, the incident came to light on Sunday when the girl was found wandering the streets in distress after fleeing her employer's residence at Kailash Vihar. "Workers from NGO Ruchika Social Service Organisation (Childline) admitted her to Capital Hospital, where medical examination revealed multiple assault marks and deep burn injuries on various parts of her body. Police suspect she was repeatedly branded with a heated object as punishment," said Girish Maharana, inspector of Chandrasekharpur police station. Based on a complaint filed by child protection workers, police booked the girl's employer, Umesh Chandra Samal and his 65-year-old wife Kavita under sections 75(b) Juvenile Justice Act, 14 of Child Labour Act, 115 and 126 of BNS, said the officer.htc...
