Mercury breaches 40degCmark, a first this month
India, May 18 -- After a relatively pleasant first half of May, Sunday saw the temperature crossing the 40deg Celsius mark in the city for the first time this month. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that the temperature is likely to rise further this week with a possibility of heatwave conditions.
The maximum temperature rose from 39degC on Saturday to 40.3degC on Sunday, 1.4degC above normal. The maximum temperature had last crossed the 40degC mark on April 24 and 25, when it reached 41degC.
With an anticyclonic movement forming over the region, dry and warm winds are likely to persist in the city as temperature gets higher. According to the IMD's initial forecast, rain is unlikely until the end of the month. Minimum temperature also rose from 22.4degC on Saturday to 22.9degC on Sunday, still 2.2degC below normal. In the next three days, maximum temperature will remain around 41degC while minimum temperature will remain around 26degC, the IMD added....
