India, July 24 -- Having been an integral part of traditional and local cooking for generations, this lesser-known wild mushroom now has a new-found audience online. Rugda, also known as putu or boda, is found beneath the forest floors of Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh and parts of West Bengal after the first monsoon showers. It is hand-foraged by tribal communities and reaches local markets for only a few weeks each year and is also popularly known as 'vegetarian' mutton.
