Panchkula, May 18 -- Acquitting a Samrala resident in connection with a fatal mishap case, a Panchkula court has slammed "perfunctory" probe by the investigation officer concerned. The mishap took place near Agrasen Chowk in Sector 16 on November 18, 2018 but the FIR was registered under Sections 279, 337 and 304-A of the IPC on November 26, 2018 against K Arjun Singh, who has been acquitted. According to the allegations, a car hit a scooter, resulting in the death of Rajni, a resident of Budhanpur village. The court found discrepancies and lapses in the investigation. It pointed to the delay in registering the FIR. It noted that the deceased's son didn't mention the identity of the accused in the original complaint. No independent witness was examined by the prosecution and no CCTV footage or photograph was produced, the court observed. Such carelessness by the investigating officer not only causes injustice to the victim but is also a failure of the whole criminal jurisprudence system, the court noted....
