Kolkata, Aug. 30 -- The Kolkata Police on Saturday registered an FIR against former West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee for allegedly violating the Calcutta high court's order during the foundation day rally of the Trinamool Congress's (TMC) students' wing. "Police have registered a suo motu case against Banerjee and the organisers of the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) rally at the Hastings police station for allegedly violating the Calcutta high court's order," said a senior IPS officer in Kolkata. This comes after chief minister Suvendu Adhikari had directed the police to register an FIR and move the Calcutta high court against his predecessor. "Look how the former chief minister violated the court's directive. One flank of the road was supposed to be kept clear. I have asked the police to register an FIR and move court. None would be spared," Adhikari told the media on Friday. "The allegations against her and the TMC are that they entered into a criminal conspiracy, made provocative statements, blocked Cathedral Road, created chaos, jostled with the police and obstructed vehicular movement. The program continued beyond the time permitted by the high court," said an official. No TMC leaders had commented till the time of filing this report.
