Madhur on violence in Mexico:Saddened to see it
India, Feb. 25 -- Director Madhur Bhandarkar, who had travelled to Puerto Vallarta in Mexico just a few months ago, is devastated at the developing news of buses being torched, roadblocks, and mayhem across the city after the reported killing of cartel boss El Mencho.
He tells us, "My friends started sending me videos and clips of the unrest there and I felt deeply saddened," adding, "It's a city which is so vibrant, with beautiful architecture and beaches and with such friendly and generous local folks. It also has some of the best restaurants and being a foodie, I loved it. Since there was a lot of traffic, I used to say, 'Hamare India jaisa lagta hai'."
Members of the Mexican criminal syndicate Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) unleashed a wave of violence across 20 Mexican states after the Mexican Army killed their leader Ruben Nemesio Oseguera popularly known as El Mencho in a security operation.
Post the killing, there have reports suggesting that in retaliation, many businesses and vehicles were burnt. Meanwhile people have been urged not to travel to Mexico, and the ones already there are advised to stay indoors....
