India, April 29 -- Indian-origin contestant Kanika Gadyok secures a top 10 spot on MasterChef Australia 2026 with Katori Chaat, a Lucknow-inspired street snack. Her dish stood out among other entries, such as butterfly trout, oxtail ravioli, and quail. Katori chaat, also known as basket chaat, features a crisp edible bowl made of potato and flour, filled with a mix of savoury ingredients, yoghurt, and chutneys. For the challenge, Gadyok filled the basket with spiced chickpeas, pairing it with a tamarind-date jaggery reduction and mint-coriander chutney. Judges were visibly impressed, with chef Poh Ling Yeow calling it "fun and vibrant", while chef Jean-Christophe Novelli praised its depth despite being entirely vegetarian. Indian street food has become a recurring highlight on the show.
