Lower House approves Manipur budget amid Opposition protests
New Delhi, Aug. 8 -- The Lok Sabha on Thursday passed the Manipur Appropriation Bill, 2025 amid a massive uproar by opposition members seeking a discussion on the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar.
Presenting the bill, Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman slammed the opposition over disrupting the proceedings and accused them of "hypocrisy" over Manipur, which is under President's rule. "The Opposition, which shed crocodile's tears for Manipur, is obstructing funds being sent to the state. It is completely shameful.
They are voting against sending funds for Manipur's betterment," Sitharaman said amid a din in the House. "I cannot believe that the Opposition parties are denying money from going to Manipur."
The appropriation bill, which authorises payment and appropriation of certain sums from and out of the consolidated fund of the state of Manipur for the services of the financial year 2025-26, was passed through a voice vote without any debate as opposition members continued protest.htc...
