J&K dy CM announces steps to rein in illegal mining
JAMMU, Feb. 28 -- Amid illegal mining across the eco-fragile Himalayan region of Jammu and Kashmir, deputy chief minister Surinder Choudhary, on Friday, announced a slew of measures to rein in illegal mining and stem the rot. "I have made it absolutely clear to all the officers in 20 districts that without receipts and GPS, no vehicle will be allowed to transport raw material," said Choudhary while addressing mediapersons here after chairing a meeting of the mining department.
The deputy CM also assured that he has asked the mining department to study all mining policies being implemented in hilly states and bring best out of them on the table for Jammu and Kashmir.
Choudhary said that he has made it clear to the officials in all the 20 districts that illegal mining will not be allowed anymore.
Meanwhile, the Anti-Corruption Bureau, launched sweeping joint surprise checks targeting illegal mining operations across Udhampur and Reasi districts, said officials.
