Srinagar, Aug. 22 -- The Union ministry of railways has announced to start another Vande Bharat train between Jammu and Srinagar, the third train to ply between the twin cities of Jammu and Kashmir since its inauguration in April. The new Vande Bharat Express will pass through Udhampur while the first two are operating through Katra route. Union minister of state in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) and Member of Parliament from Udhampur, Jitendra Singh, shared a letter by Union railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announcing the go ahead for the train. "Good news for Udhampur. In response to a popular public demand of the local population and an earnest request made by us, the railway ministry has agreed to include Udhampur as a stopover for the third and new Vande Bharat Express between Jammu and Srinagar," Singhs said on X. Prime Minister Narendra Modi first inaugurated the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project and introduced the train service from Katra to Srinagar last year. The direct Vande Bharat train between the twin cities of Jammu and Kashmir came in April this year, nearly 10 months after the launch of the service between Srinagar and Katra by the PM. In the letter, Vaishnaw said approval has been given for the third Vande Bharat Express between Jammu Tawi and Srinagar via Martyr Captain Tushar Mahajan Udhampur. So far two pairs of services were operating across the 266-km corridor which reduced travel time to four to five hours. Earlier, the people relied only on the Srinagar-Jammu highway which would often shut due to weather.
