Mumbai, Sept. 8 -- V Narayanan, chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro), on Monday said the space agency is not privatised and it will address the concerns of 20,000 of its employees on privatisation of the space sector. He said that as per space sector reforms rolled out six years ago, Isro is supposed to handhold the private sector and grow the space ecosystem. Currently, India has around 450 space start-ups. Nayaranan, who is also the secretary of the Departmentof Space (DoS), was speakingto reporters on the sidelines of the inauguration of the 9th edition of the Bengaluru Space Expo 2026. "Whenever a PSLV [Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle] or a GSLV [Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle] is lifting off, please don't think that everything is done by Isro or NSIL. Almost 80% of the budget is invested through Indian industries. Four hundred and fifty industries are working for us. That is the place we stand. So surely whatever my colleagues are having is a genuine concern. It is our responsibility to clarify," Narayanan said. "If one or two people submit a letter, one cannot respond in writing. We are 20,000 employees. But we will addressthe employees," Narayanan added. He added that Isro has to now work towards the country's requirement of around 50 launches per year that "will be accomplished by Indians in India"....
